Cons: None
Great professor. I hate writing papers more than anything in the world and this class was easy.
Cons: it was an 8am but he rarely took attendance and since class was cancelled this wasn't too much of a problem
Cons: Lots of reading assigned and the books are kind of expensive.
He is a great professor and an even better person!
Cons: a little bit accent but can be ignored.
Really nice professor and good at explaining the writing material!
And the topic just so interesting in general.
Lenient grader
Helpful
Gives conferences to talk about progress of papers
Cons: None
Kiuchi is very funny (kind of sassy) but overall a pretty lenient grader as long as you have an argument in your paper. I would recommend him.
Cons: Lots of reading for one week and lectures are pretty long.
Too much readings and the articles are so boring and long. Each week I have to spend at least 4-5 hours reading the material. Some of them do not really related to class. I wish he gives more interesting ones to read.
nice guy
if you approach him for help, he will help yo uto the n'th degree on your paper.
Cons: slightly difficult to understand at times, and grammar quizzes were abit rough. luckily they didnt count for too much of your grade though
visit office hours to talk to him about your papers. He tells you there exactly what he wants and what to change, and itl be the difference maker from a 3. and a 4. if you do that, class is realyl easy
Cons: His accent is a little bit difficult to understand sometimes, but usually it's clear what he's saying.
The material is interesting if you like technique thing
Big improve in writing after his classes
Stress logic and ideas more than grammar
Cons: The comments after paper draft is too short, you must ask him about the details.
If your are not good at idea and structure, it will be not easy.
You will never just want to tell a story, analyse is important
People really want to learn something should take this class. Professor take interest materials and assumption about the technology. In this class, technology is not just simply cellphone computer or electronics, but a lot more. And it feels great that you saw your papers and arguments could persuade professor. I feel every paper I wrote in this class is my best. Professor point out every "hole" in your logic and argument, he is very good at it. Every hard work you make this class will pay you back, because you may find it open your view and improve your technique in writing.
However, if you just decide to have a easy class and get a easy 4.0 or whatever, you should not choose this class. It will not be easy, you must pay for it. If you feel your imagination and interest in technology is not that strong, you should not take this class either.
Cons: LOTS OF WORK!
Cons: Quizzes on grammar are so difficult!
This was one of my all time favorite classes. First off, it never met! We went in every two weeks and he would give us a paper topic and then tell us class was cancelled for the next two weeks. Anyone who knows WRA, knows that those classes NEVER miss and usually take attendance. My guess is he didn't take attendance but he may have just known everyone since it was a smaller class. Topics are usually interesting, plus since its a radical thought class you can pretty much write about whatever view you want. I got 4.0's on all my papers except and it was honestly the easiest 4.0 of my freshman year. Take this class! Aside from the 5 grammer quizzes (which don't really count towards much) this class is a walk in the park!
I've never been good at writing but he makes it really easy and spells out for you really simply what he is looking for in a paper. I procrastinated quite a bit with each paper and still 3.5-4.0'ed each one. My class was about gender studies, so all 5 essays had to relate back to that. I wrote essays about public sexuality, gender roles, transvestites, and porn.
Dr. Kiuchi is really easily impressed if you step out of the box and write about controversial things.
Also, he goes on trips a lot and had to cancel class at least 40% of the time.
Easy class, good prof.
helpful with papers
cancels class very often, or takes a week or two off here and there
Cons: grammer quizzes suck
projects being papers. 5 papers, last one is your final. he grades pretty appropriately, not too hard, not too easy. But is very helpful with your papers, and if you go to his office hours for a paper, its an auto .5 or 1 point higher on your next paper. Quizzes are scheduled, and are slightly difficult, but dont affect your grade much, i got a 3.5 in class and had a 50% avg on quizzes, but my paper avgs were 3.5. I had to put a lot of work into this class, but in the end was an enjoyable writing class, and it taught me a lot about how to properly research for my papers so that was great. He also cancels class a lot, and for your last paper, gives you two weeks off from class to work on it, and takes a week off twice in semester because he travels a lot.
However, if you want to learn Writing, you should take this class.
